Frequently Asked Questions

What is cognitive behavioural therapy?

Cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) is a form of psychotherapy that focuses on identifying and changing unhelpful thinking patterns and behaviours.

How can I book a session?

You can book a session by contacting me by phone 0833281363, or filling out the contact form to request a call back or, emailing cbtmetherapy@gmail.com

The first appointment will be a CBT assessment and take a little longer than a CBT session (approx. 1 hour 20 mins).

The initial assessment is a chance to get to know each other, see how you find a therapy session online, and help you to decide if you would like to continue.

How much does a CBT session cost?

Fees:

CBT assessment (initial appointment) €120

CBT session (appointments thereafter) €100

Assessment includes suitability assessment, formulation, and treatment plan depending on goals

Cancellation where less than 24 hours notice is given 50% of the session cost

Please check with your insurance provider as they may approve covering some of the therapy session costs for you or your child

How long do I have to attend?

This can vary. I generally advise committing to 8 sessions of CBT. I routinely review progress after 8 sessions. Most people attend between 8 and 18 sessions of CBT. It is considered a short-term therapy. You can attend weekly or fortnightly.

What age group do you provide CBT for?

I provide CBT for teenagers (14 - 17yrs) and adults. If I am working with young people, I ask that a parent or carer be present at the beginning and end of the CBT session. Parents and carers are involved in the therapy throughout.

Who is not suitable for CBT?

If you or your child is experiencing active suicidal ideation or psychosis, I would postpone engaging in CBT. If there is any risk of harm please contact your GP or emergency services / 999 / 112.

If I feel that I cannot help you with your difficulties, I will explain why that is and ensure that you are appropriately referred elsewhere where possible. Please feel free to link in with me by emailing cbtmetherapy@gmail.com if you are curious about an assessment or making a referral (for clinicians)
